What’s the best thing that we expect in a TV today? Is it cool and crisp images? Maybe. Could it be the stunning colors and visual effects? Perhaps. How about the application of new image enhancing technologies? Probably. But those are all just about the display quality of the TV screen.
TV’s today are no longer the simple flip, switch, and watch boxes of the old. We have many more integrated features that not only enhance viewing experience, but also make the TV a lot more functional.
If you are looking for the best 40 inch LED TV in the market today then here are some of the better models that you can consider.
Sony 40 inch LED TV–KDL40EX620
We are hoping to prove and demonstrate that good user experience is the king with our review of the Sony BRAVIA KDL40EX620 40-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV.
Primarily designed with a good combination of ergonomics and efficiency in mind, the Sony BRAVIA KDL40EX620 can be described as one really slick unit. When turned to its side, you’ll notice the huge difference in thickness over some of its older LCD TV models. This is due to its adoption of the more efficient LED-backlighting technology. Aside from the display technology used, it seems that the convenient packaging of the entire circuitry also contributed to its clean and sleek look.
It has a standard 1920×1080 (1080p) HD display, a typical resolution for most HDTV’s out there. Its X-Reality Engine provides automatic screen adjustments, so that you’ll always enjoy sharp and high-contrast images and videos. The Motionflow 120 technology doubles frame rate, and when used in tandem with the TV’s motion blur reduction technologies, the unit can produce very, very clear images regardless of how fast-paced the action is.
Connectivity options include HDMI ports (for PC units and other devices), two USB 2.0 ports, and an Ethernet port. Aside from wired connections, it can also be connected to a network via Wi-Fi, allowing you to stream media easily from the web regardless of its position and location within the house.
If you have planned to buy this unit as a replacement for your old LCD TV, prepare yourself to be blown away. Aside from the stunning visuals, the number of available options and enhancements using all of its integrated technologies would make you to always want to connect it to a device (to enhance that device).
Aside from the LED backlight technology, the Sony BRAVIA KDL40EX620 seems to also have a considerable good focus on other energy saving technologies. The auto-brightness for example, optimizes the energy need to display the screen more efficiently at a specific ambient brightness setting. The presence sensor looks for movement around the room, slowly creeping towards sleep and standby if it can’t find “life” around it for a period of time.
If you have many BRAVIA sync compatible Sony gadgets lying around, then we suppose that the integration would be a lot better, although we did not really have a good chance to test it out. Finally, for iPhone users out there, you can use the Sony iOS app to conveniently control the unit remotely using only your phone. This can be another indirect feature that could increase the overall versatility and convenience of the Sony BRAVIA KDL40EX620.
Samsung 40 inch LED TV – UN40EH6000
Overall viewing experience was considered as one of the most important criteria that determines the value of a TV. But as newer display technologies were developed over the years, we’ve come to realize that it’s not just important that you can watch those high definition movies nicely, it is also important that you have something else to do with that big screen.
But there are just some HDTV models that stick to the television’s original purpose as a display unit. The Samsung UN40EH6000 for instance, is a 40-Inch 1080p 120Hz LED HDTV that perfects its basic purpose of boosting your viewing experience to the utmost limit.
There’s really nothing much to say about the design, as most LCD TV’s are more or less the same visually. The button and port layouts for the Samsung UN40EH6000 are conveniently placed at the sides, which is typical for most modern TV’s. The display has a standard high-definition 1080p resolution (16:9 widescreen, 1920×1080), and has a Clear Motion Rate (CMR) of about 240. It does not have a 3D display feature, but the screen can provide a full 2D viewing experience.
The Samsung UN40EH6000 utilizes the more efficient LED backlit display technology, which means that it is a lot more energy efficient that standard LCD screens (up to 40% reduction) due to its use of LED (light-emitting diodes) as backlight. Since this is a 40-inch LED backlit LCD display unit, it has a typical overall (including the stand) weight of 24.7 pounds (11.2 kilograms). Its dimensions are 36.5 x 23.9 x 9.0 Inches, and hold a VESA size of 200×200 (for bracket mounting).
In terms of “basic” performance, the Samsung UN40EH6000 is very great LED TV model. It is capable of displaying crisp and clear images without creating motion lag or choppy graphics. Even if it can’t display images in 3D, the full 2D display features manages to give us one the best 2D viewing experience in an HDTV.
What is extremely limiting about this model is that it does not seem to be designed beyond that basic capability. As such, it is almost devoid of any supporting feature that is universally available in other models that are just a few steps higher. For example, it does not have a built in Wi-Fi radio, and does not have its own web browser. This could be a critical deciding factor that can turn off many potential buyers, who are looking forward to do something more to their TV’s other than connect it to other devices with media content.
All in all however, the Samsung UN40EH6000 still outshines many other models as a standard TV, with its HD viewing optimization and energy efficient consumption as its greatest points. We’d like to think of it as Samsung’s updated baseline “budget” model for the high display quality (only) 40-inch LED “category”.
And here is an excellent budget LED TV model to help you in your search for an affordable 40 inch LED TV.
TCL 40 inch LED TV – LE40FHDP21TA
TCL is a popular name brand that provides excellent quality LED TV’s. The LE40FHDP21TA is one of their models that will look good in any room in your house. It is capable of providing true 1080p HD images in its 40 inch screen. Even though the screen size is large its profile is extra slim thanks in part to the LED backlighting it uses. One amazing feature that this 40 inch LED TV has is that it has numerous input and output ports which can easily transform your TV set into a multi-purpose device. You can transform the unit into a gaming device by plugging in your Xbox or PS3 or make it into a home theater device by connecting your Blu-Ray player.
A couple of years ago you probably wouldn’t dream of owning this type of TV but due to advances made in technology and because of consumer demand, LED TVs are in reach of the middle class. If you are planning to get one then now is the time to do so.
If you are on a tight budget then the TCL model will not let you down with its excellent features. On the other hand, if you have the right budget and want to get excellent quality then getting the Sony or Samsung LED TV model would make an excellent investment choice.
