Life with serious vision difficulties or partial blindness may be quite painful. Thankfully technology has made things easier for those who suffer from this misfortune. Various gadgets have been designed to make their life comfortable. A mobile phone for visually impaired is one such device. Just because a person is visually impaired does not mean that they cannot communicate with others like everyone else. And mobiles form an integral part of keeping in touch with everyone. But with minimal vision it becomes really difficult to use a regular mobile phone.
However, new innovations such as screen readers in mobiles are helping a lot in making phones fit for use by all. Screen reading software eliminates the problem that visually impaired people have in reading the text on screen or navigate a cell phone. It can also help them in reading the content of websites. This type of software also announces the details of an incoming call and usually has support for multiple languages. A mobile phone for visually impaired people also has voice control. This gives the visually impaired person, the freedom to operate the phone with minimal key-presses. Commands can be programmed quite easily too. And there are phones with screen magnifiers to help people with poor vision. These people cannot usually view normal sized font, but if letters or even images are magnified they have a chance of being able to see it without further assistance. These magnifiers provide 2x or more magnification.
Finally there are people who are severely impaired visually or perhaps even blind. Along with screen readers and voice control, a Braille keyboard also helps them use a mobile phone. Some phones have Braille lettering on the buttons and help people type text and numbers easily. A mobile phone for visually impaired people is a boon for those who are unfortunate enough to have lost their sight partially or completely.
